TRANSPORTATION

Two major airports – Logan Airport in Boston and T.F. Green Airport in Providence, Rhode Island – are within 50 miles/80km of the peninsula. In addition, several carriers offer a year-round schedule of direct flights between several major northeast cities—including Boston, Providence and New York – and Cape Cod’s Hyannis Airport, as well as the islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. A full complement of ground transportation services, including taxis, car rental companies and buses, are available at each local airport. Another quick – and especially scenic – way to arrive at the Cape is by water. High-speed ferry service is offered from Boston to Provincetown and between Cape Cod and the Islands. In addition, numerous full-service marinas provide slip space and moorings for private and corporate yachts.

By car, the approach is marked by two arched bridges spanning the man-made Cape Cod Canal. It is approximately 70 miles/112km from the canal to Provincetown, at the tip of Cape Cod. Three main roads run parallel along the Cape from west to east. The quickest route is down the middle along Route 6, the Mid-Cape Highway, which begins at the Sagamore Bridge. On the south, Route 28 follows a commercial route from Woods Hole and Falmouth along Nantucket Sound. Route 6A meanders on a northerly route along Cape Cod Bay past historic homes, antique shops and scenic vistas. All three of these roads merge at the Orleans Rotary and become Route 6 which travels north to Provincetown.

Once here, your group can take a deep breath of salt air and relax; there are plenty of options for getting around. Several villages have seasonal shuttle circuits connecting shopping districts, beaches and tourist attractions. Taxis are generally available at local airports, bus stations, ferry docks and town centers, and fares are reasonable, especially compared to those in urban centers. A variety of full service limousine companies are available for airport and ferry transfers, as well as distinctive wedding transportation, personalized sightseeing tours, and group outings. Private tour bus operators also offer group and individual trips to most popular local destinations.
